Be Brave! 5 Steps to Build Your Confidence

September 20, 2019 by PTHBlog Leave a Comment

You can build your confidence! We believe everyone can learn how to be confident. For many people, it is not something that is innate. Many of us were not born with a well-developed self-confidence gene You need to try to move toward this goal though.

You can build your confidence with these 5 simple steps.

If you really want to build your confidence, take a honest inventory of yourself. What are you lacking? What are your pitfalls? What makes you shrink to the back of the crowd or not go for the big deal? Helping to see where you can get better is a great place to start. The steps to build your confidence are small. But they add up and doing them will keep the momentum going!

Listen to our Permission to Hustle Podcast episode on how Vera has built up her own self-confidence.

5 Steps to Build Your Confidence

1. Put perfume on.

This does not make sense. We understand this. However, the sense of smell is very powerful. It can help you feel put together and help you hold your head up high. Some people like to use lavender or other calming essential oils if anxiety is an issue. Think about a smell that makes you smile and that should be the scent you put on when you need a confidence boost.

2. Practice, practice, practice.

Know your stuff. Whatever messaging you have to learn, study them like you used to study Geometry. Be certain that you can regurgitate the information you are supposed to in a natural way. Don’t be afraid to turn down gigs that aren’t a fit no matter how much practice you do. If you aren’t a scientist, don’t take jobs that are trying to make you into one.

3. Curate your message.

Make sure you are comfortable with the messaging. Put it into your own words. Stumbling on facts or ideas you are unclear about is the number one downfall for building confidence. Try to use your own words and phrasing whenever possible.

4. Be comfortable in your skin.

Be you! Wear what you feel comfortable in. You can vary the colors and patterns if you want but your outfit should be something you don’t have to worry about. You want clothes that emphasize you. You don’t want to have to spend time thinking about your clothes or hair or shoes. Worry about your messaging instead. When you have a big event and need a confidence boost, make sure you dress as yourself. Go for your favorite look even if it doesn’t match what you “think” you should wear. Be 100% you.

5. Believe that no one is special.

Know this: No one is better than you. And you aren’t better than anyone else! It doesn’t matter who is sitting in front of you. We are all just human beings. We are all the same. It doesn’t matter if the President is in the room. He is just a person too! It helps to connect with the people you are talking to like you connect to your friends and family.

You can build your confidence. Check out 5 steps to help move you toward that goal TODAY.

Bottom line:

You will start exuding confidence over time when you start taking these steps. It’s so important to believe that you can be confident, that you can look and feel like those people you admire. That can be you too! One of the first things you have to do to build your confidence is to believe that you can!
